Choose by where you need to finish
Koh Lanta to Krabi means different journeys: a flight from Krabi Airport, a night in Krabi Town, or a stay in Ao Nang. For a flight, a road transfer booked from your actual Koh Lanta hotel to the airport avoids a separate passenger-pier arrival and onward taxi. For a mainland beach stay, the seasonal Saladan–Ao Nang ferry can be a useful alternative.
Do not reverse an outward ferry timetable to construct the return. The operator publishes different departure times and even different seasonal exclusions by direction and destination. Your return decision also needs the hotel-to-Saladan leg and, for flights, the airline’s check-in deadline.
Lanta Castaway: road and sea transport optionsFor Krabi Airport: book hotel to terminal
Use a private road transfer when controlling pickup time matters more than the lowest per-person fare. It still uses the vehicle-ferry route, so ferry queues and road delays remain possible. A shared van can suit a flexible departure day, but other pickups and drops make a published journey estimate a poor basis for a tight flight connection.
Start the pickup calculation at the hotel, particularly if staying well south of Saladan. Give the supplier the flight number, travel date, hotel name and airline deadline; require the booked service to finish at Krabi Airport, not Krabi Town or a bus station. Lanta Castaway’s mainland-to-island minivan estimate is roughly two hours, but that is not evidence that every hotel-to-airport journey takes two hours.
Lanta Castaway: year-round minivan access and car-ferry crossingWork backwards from the airline deadline
Separate four parts of your departure: the hotel-to-airport transfer estimate, a road/ferry disruption allowance, airport processing time and the airline’s hard check-in or bag-drop cutoff. Add them before selecting pickup. A supplier’s driving time does not include the time you need inside the terminal.
This is a planning method, not a guaranteed minimum connection. If an early flight would require a crossing that your transfer supplier cannot explicitly confirm, stay on the mainland the night before. An expensive or inflexible international departure also makes that overnight option worth considering. Do not substitute a generic “leave a couple of hours” rule for the actual hotel, ferry arrangement and airline requirement.
Pimalai: transfers can change with weather and use the car ferryFor Ao Nang: the published afternoon boat
Ao Nang Travel lists Saladan Pier to Ao Nang at 13:30–15:30, with an adult fare of ฿700 and a child fare of ฿500. These were displayed on 25 October 2026 and are not live availability. The product states November–April operation and an exclusion from 11 May through 8 November 2026. It is therefore not an October sailing option, despite a daily label on the overview page.
Arrange the hotel-to-Saladan leg before departure. The product contains pickup information partly in an image, so it does not establish text-readable coverage for every Lanta beach hotel. For bookings within three hours of departure, it explicitly tells passengers to check in at Saladan themselves. Do not count the advertised arrival as the time you reach a mainland hotel.
Ao Nang Travel: Koh Lanta–Ao Nang times, fare and conditionsA Krabi Town ticket can arrive via Ao Nang
The same operator’s Koh Lanta–Krabi Town product lists 13:30–16:00, adult ฿700 and child ฿500. Crucially, its detailed notes say arrival is at Nopparat Thara Pier with a hotel drop-off. This is a boat-and-road hotel journey, not proof of a direct sailing into Klong Jilad Pier near Krabi Town.
Its seasonal exclusion runs from 11 May through 14 November 2026, which differs from the Ao Nang product. For early November, check the exact destination product rather than assuming all routes restart together. The included destination text names Krabi Town hotels, not Krabi Airport; do not buy it as an airport connection.

For a boat, count the ticket, any Lanta hotel pickup not included, excess bags and any transfer beyond the published mainland drop-off area. Ao Nang Travel states a 20-kilogram luggage limit, ฿100 per bag above its limit, non-refundable tickets and permission to change the date before departure. Weather can change travel time.
For a road transfer, compare the shared per-person total with one private-vehicle quote for your party. Require the quote to identify ferry charges, hotel pickup, airport or hotel delivery, luggage and any child-seat arrangement. This guide does not attach an invented current price to the road option; the named endpoints and vehicle determine the useful comparison.

Pimalai publishes complimentary roundtrip Krabi Airport transfers for its guests and requests arrival and departure flight details. It also states that adverse weather can replace boat transfers with a vehicle using the car ferry. Other hotels have their own arrangements; a benefit offered by one resort is not a public island shuttle.
If the next stop is Ao Nang or Krabi Town rather than a flight, the afternoon boat may fit a leisurely mainland hotel move in season. If the next event is a hard flight deadline, choose the transfer and disruption allowance around that deadline instead of choosing the boat first.
