Koh Tao to Koh Phangan: ferry times, fares and beach transfers

Take a passenger boat from Mae Haad on Koh Tao to Thong Sala on Koh Phangan, then continue to your beach. Compare dated Lomprayah speedboat, catamaran and ferry examples, and separate a pier ticket from a hotel-transfer product.

How to get from Koh Tao to Koh Phangan

Travel by passenger boat from Mae Haad on Koh Tao to Thong Sala on Koh Phangan. You do not need to go back to Samui for this journey. Arrange the trip from your Tao accommodation to check-in, then the onward ride from Thong Sala to the Phangan hotel. The public ferry is not a direct arrival at every beach.

Lomprayah’s official 2026 timetable publishes speedboat, catamaran and ferry options. This guide compares that documented operator, not every carrier. Its listed sea journeys range from a 45-minute speedboat example to a 1-hour-40-minute ferry example; hotel-to-hotel travel is longer.

Read the fare and hotel inclusion together

These examples are from page 11 of the operator’s timetable marked Update 25/08/69, checked on 25 October 2026. They are published route fares, not live availability for your date.

The catamaran-and-van examples cost THB 200 more than their matching pier-only tickets; the same difference appears for the listed ferry pair. That buys the stated product’s Phangan transfer, not proof that every hotel is covered. Lomprayah explicitly excludes Thong Nai Pan in its Phangan Any Hotel pickup sections, and its booking labels also flag that exclusion. Do not assume a northeast-bay hotel is included in a generic Any Hotel arrival: get the exact property accepted before paying.

A pier-only fare still needs any paid Tao hotel-to-pier ride and the Phangan pier-to-hotel ride. We have not verified a universal taxi fare for those legs, so the table does not disguise a boat fare as a complete holiday-transfer price.

Leaving Koh Tao: work backwards from check-in

Lomprayah requires passengers at its office at least 60 minutes before departure. For the 09:30 example, reach check-in by 08:30; arrange an earlier hotel pickup rather than treating 08:30 as the time to leave Sairee or Chalok. Mae Haad accommodation can simplify the road leg, but the operator’s office location still matters.

Complete any hotel checkout and dive-centre equipment return before joining the journey. Keep your identification, ticket, medication and valuables accessible, with luggage ready to load. A short sea crossing does not remove the check-in or boarding steps.

If a dive programme finishes on departure morning, use its actual return-to-shore time before choosing a boat. Do not build the day around a ferry you can reach only if the dive boat returns early.

Your decisionArrival decisionWhat to arrange
Thong SalaStay near the arrival town for errands and food.Locate the exact hotel entrance; not every town room is beside the pier.
Baan Tai or Haad RinContinue along the south-coast side.Book a driver to the actual property; a Thong Sala ticket does not mean Haad Rin arrival.
Haad Yao or Haad SaladContinue to a west/northwest beach base.Check hillside versus beach access and the final approach with luggage.
ChaloklumContinue north to the fishing-village area.Arrange the road transfer rather than planning to walk from the pier.
Thong Nai Pan Noi or YaiContinue across the island to a northeast bay.Reserve the full transfer and verify coverage; do not rely on an Any Hotel label.

Arrival is at Thong Sala, not Haad Rin or Thong Nai Pan

Send the receiving hotel your operator and scheduled arrival, and identify who is meeting you if you reserve pickup. Haad Rin and Thong Nai Pan are different onward journeys: choosing the correct bay is more useful than asking for a generic Phangan hotel drop.

Thong Nai Pan Noi and Yai are separate northeast bays. Anantara Rasananda’s published arrival instructions distinguish a public-pier arrival followed by land transport from its specific resort speedboat service. A private hotel boat is not included simply because you have bought a public Tao-to-Phangan ferry ticket.

Keep the first afternoon local, particularly after a late sailing. If attending a Haad Rin event, leave time for the hotel transfer and arrange the return ride; do not treat the ferry arrival time as the time you will be ready at the venue.

Baggage, weather and the next connection

Lomprayah’s terms allow large luggage up to 20 kg, with a stated THB 200 charge above that weight. Small luggage items have no additional charge under those terms; boards and bicycles have separate charges and restrictions. Do not transfer this allowance to a different carrier.

The operator may change routes or timetables without notice and disclaims responsibility for missed connecting flights or trains. Keep a boat-dependent arrival day flexible. For an important flight from Samui, our conservative recommendation is to move to Samui the previous day rather than rely on successive island crossings and an airport transfer.

Book the direction printed here, Koh Tao to Koh Phangan. Reverse-route departure times and mainland connection rows in the same PDF are not evidence for this sailing. Recheck the dated booking result before payment rather than treating the examples above as guaranteed daily inventory.
