Koh Chang to Koh Kood: ferry choices and the mainland fallback

Use a date-confirmed inter-island service when available. If it is not operating, the alternative is a Koh Chang mainland crossing, a road transfer to Laem Sok and a separate Koh Kood ferry, potentially with a Trat overnight.

Can you go from Koh Chang to Koh Kood by ferry?

Boonsiri publishes a Koh Chang–Koh Kood high-speed ferry route, but says the available service, departure point and journey time depend on the travel date. Use the inter-island option when the booking result confirms your actual date and endpoints. Do not assume one departure, one pier or one travel time applies throughout the year.

The useful alternative is via mainland Trat, not back through Bangkok: leave Koh Chang by its mainland ferry, travel by road to Laem Sok, then cross to Koh Kood. This adds a road leg and another sea crossing. It may need a mainland overnight if the connections do not fit.

Bang Bao and Ao Sapparot are different departure choices

Boonsiri’s booking form lists Koh Chang (Bang Bao pier), Koh Chang (Ao Sapparot pier), and a hotel-transfer category covering White Sand Beach–Bang Bao. These are selectable origin labels, not evidence that every origin serves Koh Kood on every date. Search from your preferred pickup area, then read the actual service details.

Bang Bao is at the southern end of the west-coast visitor corridor. Ao Sapparot is the arrival/departure area used for the mainland crossing in the northeast. From a west-coast hotel, these require different road journeys. Do not book a taxi to the pier you remember arriving at unless it is the one on the onward ticket.

A hotel-transfer ticket can avoid arranging that first road leg separately, but the named coverage is not an all-island promise. East-coast accommodation or a property outside the stated zone needs its own pickup arrangement.

  1. 1

    Choose the exact origin

Compare a hotel-transfer result with a pier-only result. Check whether the listed time is hotel pickup, check-in or boat departure; those are different appointments.

  2. 2

    Read the route before paying

The service detail should identify the Koh Chang departure, the Koh Kood arrival, any intermediate stops, journey estimate and transfer inclusions. Do not interpret a broad island-to-island search result as a guaranteed nonstop sailing.

  3. 3

    Arrange the Koh Kood arrival

Select the accommodation endpoint if offered and give the exact resort name. If the ticket ends at a pier, arrange the onward road leg before leaving Koh Chang. Boonsiri’s form distinguishes Ao Salad from hotel-transfer destinations.

Mainland fallback: Ao Sapparot → Ao Thammachat → Laem Sok

Start with a road transfer from your Koh Chang hotel to Ao Sapparot. Cross to Ao Thammachat on the Trat mainland, then take a separately arranged road transfer to the Koh Kood operator’s Laem Sok check-in office. From there, take the booked Koh Kood ferry and continue to your accommodation.

Bangkok Airways’ May 2026 transport guide identifies the Ao Thammachat crossing and the Ao Sapparot–Bang Bao road corridor. Use that geography to plan the fallback, not as a promise that its published ferry frequency will hold on your departure day. Laem Sok is a different mainland pier: arriving at Ao Thammachat does not put you in the Koh Kood departure queue.

Book the Laem Sok connection around the full hotel-to-office journey, including the first ferry’s waiting time. Boonsiri advises Laem Sok check-in about 45–60 minutes before the Koh Kood departure unless the confirmation says otherwise. If the timings leave no usable margin, overnight on the mainland and continue the following day.

Compare fares door to door

An inter-island ticket may be pier-to-pier or include a hotel transfer; compare the actual endpoints before choosing the lower headline fare. For the mainland alternative, cost the Koh Chang hotel pickup, mainland crossing, Ao Thammachat–Laem Sok road transfer, Koh Kood ferry and any excluded final hotel transfer. Add a Trat room if the connection requires an overnight.

For scale, Boonsiri’s 23 October 2026 Laem Sok guide lists 600 THB per adult one way for its Koh Kood ferry service, including scheduled resort transport subject to service and coverage conditions. That amount is not an inter-island fare or the cost of the entire mainland fallback. The page describes a roughly one-hour Laem Sok crossing, not a one-hour journey from Koh Chang.

What if no inter-island departure appears?

Try the actual pier and hotel-transfer categories for your date before concluding that no route exists; a missing result from one origin label does not establish an island-wide cancellation. Conversely, an operator’s general route article is not a confirmed sailing. A date-specific service result or operator confirmation is needed before fixing non-refundable accommodation around the crossing.

If no suitable service is confirmed, choose the mainland route only after the second ferry and road transfer fit together. Otherwise keep another night on Koh Chang, use a Trat overnight, or stay on one island. With only a few nights available, dropping the island change can preserve more usable holiday time than forcing the extra transfers.

For the departure from Koh Kood later in the trip, keep a buffer before an inflexible Bangkok flight. An available mainland fallback does not mean a same-day international-flight connection is resilient to weather or ferry disruption.
